Picodata Confirms Compatibility with AggreGate: A Replacement for Apache Cassandra Without Code Changes
Picodata, a distributed DBMS for critical infrastructure (part of the Arenadata Group), has confirmed its status as a high-performance replacement for Apache Cassandra.
AggreGate has successfully completed a testing cycle for this DBMS as an alternative to the widely used Cassandra. Thanks to the Picodata Sirin plugin, which is compatible with the Cassandra protocol, the transition required no rewriting of the platform's code.
Enterprises using AggreGate can now confidently move away from the foreign DBMS without incurring code rewriting costs, while also gaining additional data processing speed.
Testing Methodology
AggreGate engineers conducted tests under real industrial loads typical for industrial internet of things (IIoT) scenarios: intensive telemetry recording and point key reads. To ensure a fair comparison, the same hardware, drivers, and AggreGate connectors previously used with Cassandra were employed.
Results
The test results demonstrated Picodata's high performance level. Furthermore, Picodata provides strong data consistency, whereas Cassandra operates on an eventual consistency model by default. For industrial automation and critical information infrastructure (CII) facilities, this difference is fundamental.
Olga Mikallef, Commercial Director at AggreGate:
"It was important for us to conduct tests not just in theory, but under real industrial loads—using the same equipment and scenarios our clients face. Picodata confirmed its high performance, and its strong data consistency makes it a more reliable choice for CII facilities compared to Cassandra. Crucially for business, the replacement required no changes to our platform's code."
Konstantin Malashenko, Director of Business Development at Picodata:
"Picodata with the Sirin plugin has now proven compatibility with the AggreGate platform. As a sanctions-independent DBMS, Picodata has maintained the platform's high performance while introducing strong data consistency. Importantly for the transition from Western to domestic products, replacing Cassandra with Picodata did not require any code changes to AggreGate."
